PRESS RELEASE [STARTS… DON’T MISS the Seventy-fourth Annual Exhibition of The National Society of Painters, Sculptors, and Printmakers The National Society of Painters, Sculptors, and Printmakers return to the Menier Gallery, Southwark, for their seventy-fourth annual art exhibition which runs from 12 December to 22 December 2007. The exhibition encompasses a dynamic mix of contemporary painting, sculpture and printmaking by well established artists and new young talent. Not only a showcase of member’s work, the exhibition also features the theme ‘Southwark and its environs’ offering a chance to see how the National Society’s artists have interpreted and explored the locality through their diverse styles. The Menier Gallery is located in one of London’s most ancient areas, famously known as ‘London’s Larder’ after the importance of the wharves of London Bridge and Tooley Street, and the thriving Borough Market. Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Southwark Cathedral, and the London Dungeon, all lie nearby. The current members of the National Society form part of a fine heritage of artists and the Society’s integrity has been retained since its founding in 1930 by featuring the highest quality fine art in prestigious galleries. Framed paintings and prints and a range of sculpture can be purchased together with more intimate studies from the portfolios, and there will be opportunity to meet the artists and learn their techniques through a series of demonstrations. Just a short stroll from London Bridge and housed in a converted nineteenth century chocolate factory, The Menier Gallery forms part of a highly acclaimed arts complex on the South Bank which includes one of London’s most dynamic fringe theatres. Don’t miss the opportunity to support one of London’s premier contemporary art exhibitions and the chance to buy innovative art at realistic prices. DATES: 12 December to 22 December 2007 from 10am to 6pm (closed 16 December all day, and closes at 4pm on 22 December).
